Connecting Exchanges
Ethonode syncs exchange balances and transactions using the exchange’s API. You create a read-only API key in the exchange and paste it into Ethonode. Your trading password and login credentials stay with the exchange.
Coinbase
Why read-only
Coinbase API keys can be scoped to view, trade, or transfer. Ethonode only ever needs view. Never grant trade or transfer permissions to any portfolio tracker.
Creating a read-only API key
- Log in at coinbase.com.
- Open Settings → API.
- Click + New API Key.
- Under permissions, check only wallet:accounts:read, wallet:transactions:read, and wallet:user:read. Leave every trade/transfer permission unchecked.
- Confirm with your 2-factor code and copy the API key and secret.
- In Ethonode, go to your workspace → Add source → Exchange → Coinbase, label it, paste the key + secret, and click Connect Exchange.
Never give Ethonode — or any third party — an API key with trade or withdrawal permissions. Read-only only.
